Green Car Tax

Car fuel whether it be petrol or diesel is something that the government rely on heavily, as it is such a big business and therefore brings in a lot of money to the country. But with advances in motoring and the design of eco cars, meaning far more green vehicles are on the roads, they are finding it increasingly difficult to command prices and make the money that they normally would.

To combat this they are contemplating rising the prices for green vehicles, and implementing this through the road tax we pay. Currently eco friendly cars are in a smaller bracket and therefore cost less to maintain.

The shortfall in the motoring budget could affect things like the conditions of our roads, and the government seem to be realising that although it is a good idea for the environment for them to encourage us to buy these more economically viable vehicles, it might impact them in the future.

The cars offer you a way to get around that is not harmful to the environment, but also a great way to save money on your Comprehensive Car Insurance policies. Low carbon vehicles are therefore great for everyone, especially in the economic climate as it currently is in 2011.

RAC Foundation director Professor Stephen Glaister said: “At some stage a point will be reached when the Government is likely to either start putting up tax on green fuels or the Treasury must accept a cut in its income. For all the talk about sustainable transport there also needs to be a sustainable and equitable tax regime.

“With just 1,500 electric cars registered in Britain at the end of 2010 clearly this is not going to be an overnight problem, but it will have to be tackled sooner or later. Given that there are real doubts that the price of battery-powered cars will fall significantly, drivers are likely to be unhappy with anything that increases their day-to-day outgoings.”

If you are driving on the roads in the UK then you will know that it is a legal requirement to have Car Insurance, a valid MOT certificate and valid road tax.

Alternative Fuel Cars and Alternative Fuels Tips

In the simplest form, an alternative fuel is one that is not produced by using crude oil.  They are simply fuels that replace conventional gasoline as a means of powering vehicles.  Alternative fuels have desirable energy efficiency and pollution reduction features. The 1990 Clean Air Act encourages development and sale of alternative fuels. Basically, alternative fuels include methane, propane, ethanol, and compressed gas among others. The use of alterative fuels informed people that they should switch to alternative fuel vehicles now.

There are two types of <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/1394842']);” href=” http://alternativefuelstips.com/blog/”>alternative fuel cars </a> – those that are originally designed to run on these new fuels and those that have been converted to run on alternative fuels.  Car companies will also make hybrid vehicles that can run on either gasoline or other fuels.  Many people call these cars “green vehicles” because of their positive effect on the environment.

Since the trend is toward producing and buying environmentally friendly vehicles, nearly every major car manufacturer has at least one green vehicle in their inventory.  We’re relatively sure that as alternative fuels become more and more popular because of the cost and the positive effects on our environment, the number of green vehicles will dramatically increase in the next few years.

As of 2006, here is a list of some of the green vehicles manufactured by some of the major car companies:

•       Honda Insight
•       Honda Accord Hybrid
•       Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 Series
•       Dodge Stratus Sedan
•       Dodge Durango SUV
•       Dodge Caravan Minivan
•       Ford Taurus
•       Ford F-150 Pickup
•       Ford Escape SUV
•       GM Impala
•       Chevrolet Silverado 4 x 2
•       Chevrolet Tahoe SUV
•       Chevy Yukon SUV
•       Nissan Titan Pickup
•       Toyota Highlander SUV
•       Toyota Prius

Many of the vehicles listed above are hybrid vehicles which mean that they can run on both conventional gasoline as well as alternative fuels.  As we said, the above list is for 2006 vehicles.  The list for 2007 is much larger.

There are also two other types of <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/1394842']);” href=” http://alternativefuelstips.com/blog/”> alternative fuel cars </a> that are becoming more and more popular.  First, there is the electric vehicle.  This car is exactly what it says it is.  You plug it into an electrical outlet to charge the battery and then drive without using any fuel at all.  However, these vehicles are generally not meant to travel at high speeds.

A second type of AFV is the fuel cell vehicle.  These cars get electrical energy from a fuel cell instead of from a battery.  There are different kinds of fuel cell vehicles, but most manufacturers prefer cells that use a proton exchange membrane that uses hydrogen to produce an electrical current to run the motor.  The only type of exhaust with this type of vehicle is water – believe it or not!

Besides the obvious advantages to owning an AFV, the government is also stepping in to make it even more advantageous.  People who buy these types of vehicles are given tax breaks on their income taxes.  Additionally, many states also offer incentives and car manufacturers even offer rebates or discounts.

It’s kind of exciting to think about the fact that we can now power our vehicles using things like vegetable oil, animal fats, and even wood!  It brings to mind the movie “Back to the Future” where Doc would power his DeLorean time machine using garbage as fuel!

Avoid the raging control over oil prices while you save our mother earth. Use alternative fuels now. Be informed. Get a free guide about how you can use alternative fuels as its best now.

Green Chemicals to Improve Workplace Safety

This car was manufactured in 1965 by the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Limited, Crewe, Cheshire. The car was fitted with a limousine body by Mulltner Park Ward and finished in Valentines Black and was delivered to John Lennon on June 3, 1965 On December 21, 1965, John ordered a Sterno Radio Telephone. In 1966, the car had the rear seat modified to convert to a double bed. A custom interior/exterior sound system was installed along with a “loud hailer.” Other features installed were: Sony television, telephone and a portable refrigerator. John eventually became restless with the “matt black overall” on the car and so in April of 1967, he had in mind the possibility of having his car painted “psychedelic”. The newly painted psychedelic car drew some public outrage when a old woman in downtown London attacked the car using her umbrella and yelling: “You swine, you swine! How dare you do this to a Rolls-Royce.” Obviously, the Rolls-Royce is passionately regarded in England as one of the many symbols of British dignity! Rolls-Royce company was appalled at this custom painted psychedelic-theme and launches a formal complaint. The Beatles used the Rolls exclusively in their heyday from 1966 to 1969. In 1970, John had the Phantom V shipped to the United States. The car was loaned out to several rock stars such as the Rolling Stones, the Moody Blues, and Bob Dylan. From October 3, 1978 to January 7, 1979, the car was put on public display at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and then returned to

Green Chemicals to Improve Workplace Safety

Green chemicals are known for their cleaning power and for being eco-friendly cleaning alternatives. However, many people may not realize how important these products are for human safety. This is especially important for employers in many industries, whose employees work with harmful cleaning agents every day. Switching to green chemicals can help make the workplace safer for everyone.

Everyday Examples

To better understand how toxic and harmful some cleaning agents can be, it is helpful to look at some everyday products. Windshield wiper fluids, for example, are something that most people take for granted. In fact, most of us don’t even think about what might be in that cleaning fluid. However, runoff of wiper fluid from different cars can actually cause damage to roads and the environment. Many car enthusiasts prefer not to use these fluids on special models because they can have a corrosive and damaging effect on car components. If this is the kind of effect wiper fluids have on concrete and metal, then just imagine how it could affect a human being. This is precisely where green cleaning products are a better alternative.

Even in a domestic setting, switching to green cleaners can cut down on a number of problems. Many people, especially young children, tend to have allergic reactions to many of the chemicals used for cleaning. If these chemicals leave behind toxic traces, the effect can be serious.

Green chemicals, on the other hand, are plant based; they don’t pose risks of toxicity to people who use them. Apart from that, these green chemicals can break down completely and naturally in the environment. There is absolutely no risk of them causing soil or water pollution. Switching to green chemicals in the workplace offers all these advantages and many more.

Lower the Risk

Working in industrial areas often means working with harmful and toxic cleaning chemicals. Many employers across the country are facing the brunt of lawsuits filed by employees who have become sick because of exposure to these toxic cleaning agents. Sometimes the cleaning products themselves can be toxic; in other cases, failure to have the right kind of protective gear can cause problems.

This entire situation can be nullified with the use of green chemicals. Workers will not run the risk of toxic exposure and can be assured of safer working conditions. Employers also won’t have to worry about getting hit with lawsuits stemming from health conditions that arose due to the use of toxic chemicals.

Not only are green chemicals safe for employees and the environment, they are also well equipped for industrial cleaning jobs. These products use specialized technologies that penetrate and disintegrate dirt and grease molecules. Even hardened and old industrial debris can be cleared away with relative ease. Green chemicals are also helpful in commercial areas like restaurants and hotels, as they clean effectively but won’t chemically contaminate any surfaces.

Manufacturing plants, food service facilities, factories, office areas, schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and a virtually limitless list of facilities can benefit from the use of green chemicals. By opting to make the switch to green chemicals, you are opting for effective cleaning power that keeps people and the environment safe.Green cleaning products are a better alternative for environment.

City of Long Beach partners with Freedom Waterless Car Wash

The Long Beach Police Department is trading in its hoses for a more environmentally friendly method of washing police vehicles.  The Police Department announced today a waterless car wash pilot project aimed at reducing the water used for washing police vehicles.  This 12-week Pilot project will test waterless car wash products to see how the waterless alternatives compare.

“This could be a win-win situation for the City if this pilot program is successful,” Mayor Bob Foster said.  “We are taking another step to becoming a sustainable city by reducing water usage and pollution, but also save the City money.”

The Police Department washes approximately 50 police vehicles per week at the Police Headquarters.  “Washing our vehicles is necessary to maintain  them, but does not necessarily require the use of water,” said Chief Billy Quach.  “The Long Beach Police Department is committed to looking for ways to reduce our operational water usage to be in line with the City’s water policies.”

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, cleaning a vehicle using soap and a water hose can waste up to 116 gallons of water per car wash. The dirt and debris stuck to an automobile’s surface can be a combination of soils, oils, grease and other polluting compounds. The combination of dirty soap and excess water runoff resulting from a car wash can contaminate local soils and waterways.

“Amid the state water crisis, it is important for the City of Long Beach to seek out new ways of permanently reducing water use,” said Kevin Wattier, General Manager for the Long Beach Water Department.  “Instead of using potable water to wash these vehicles, waterless alternatives exist and can be explored through this pilot project.”

The waterless car wash cleaning products have been donated by Freedom Waterless Car Wash company for the 12-week pilot project.  “Washing cars wastes water and creates run-off that drags pollutants into our storm drains leading to the ocean,” said David Elliot, founder of the Freedom Waterless Carwash company.  “The waterless alternative is organic, non-toxic and saves water, time and money.”

The Waterless Car Wash pilot project is a partnership among the Office of Sustainability, the Long Beach Police Department and the Long Beach Water Department.

Long Beach Water is an urban, Southern California retail water supply agency, and the standard in water conservation and environmental stewardship.

The Office of Sustainability develops and implements model sustainability programs for the City of Long Beach.  For more information on the City’s sustainability programs, visit http://www.sustainablelb.com/

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oct 28, 2009 – Long Beach City’s Police Department and Freedom Waterless Car Wash announce a partnership in a pilot program to clean their Black and White police vehicles spotless and shiny using NO WATER.

On October 29th, 10am, Thursday, on the steps of Long Long Beach City Hall will be the formal unveiling and announcement of the Freedom Waterless Car Wash Pilot Program in partnership with Long Beach City Police Department.

With the cooperation of Mayor Bob Foster’s Office of Sustainability, City of Long Beach and the guidance of Meredith Reynolds, Long Beach City’s Sustainability Coordinator, and David Elliott, Founder of Freedom Waterless Carwash, the city’s finest have agreed to roll out a pilot program whereby their current method of hand washing police cars will be substituted with Freedom Waterless Carwash.

Freedom Waterless Car Wash is a 99% biodegradable cleaning product that effectively cleans vehicles in an ultra eco-friendly way. Each car will be cleaned using two plush, microfiber towels and 2-5 ounces of cleaning product made from a special blend of water, soaps, lubricants, waxes and polymers. The towels can be washed in the washing machine and be used over and over again.

Car washing by hand can use up to 80-140 gallons per wash.* [From the International Carwash Association]. Commercial car washes use approximately 45 gallons of water per car wash. The runoff from hand car washing contains contaminated water laden with harmful chemicals, soaps and oils from road grime that gets stuck to the vehicle while driving. This contaminated water can leach directly into the soil and eventually into local waterways, thus creating environmental damage and polluting our precious watershed systems. Most commercial car washes flush the used “grey water” into the sanitary system, creating more water and chemicals to process.

Freedom Waterless Carwash creates NO toxic runoff and only uses a few ounces water to clean, polish and protect the vehicle. The vehicles will stay clean longer due to the anti-static properties in the formula and result in fewer cleanings per month. This will save time, money and effort maintaining the cleanliness of the fleet. A minimum of 50 Police cars will be washed using this method per week.

Freedom Waterless Carwash Video Demo

http://www.youtube.com/freedomwaterless

“In January 2009, we revamped and improved the entire Freedom product line-up. We started using ‘food grade dyes,’ and passed a biodegradability test with a result of 99% “readily” biodegradable. Now Freedom Waterless Carwash cleans and shines better than ever. It goes on easier and repels dust and dirt for weeks. We have also added the Freedom Complete Clean All Purpose “Greener” Cleaner to the family of Freedom products. This amazing product not only removes bugs, tar and brake dust, but it can even clean carpets and upholstery.” – David Elliott, Founder/Co-Owner, Freedom Waterless Carwash.

“We have vast knowledge and expertise in logistics, research & development and environmental protection guidelines. We have two teams of environmentally compliant chemists who develop, test and certify all of our products.”

http://freedomwaterlesscarwash.com

“There are close to a billion vehicles in America and billions more worldwide. The demand for a “friendlier to the environment” high performance waterless car wash product line is ENORMOUS! We are ready, set up and extremely capable of filling this ever-growing demand.” – David Elliott, Founder/Co-Owner, Freedom Waterless Carwash

California, in particular Southern California, is in a declared state of drought and has committed to take necessary actions to reduce their use of water and practice conservation efforts whenever possible. This is a stated goal of both the Governor of California, the Mayor of Long Beach City and the Metropolitan Water District of Los Angeles County.

Governor Schwarzenegger, just last week, announced California’s Green Cities website, http://www.greencitiescalifornia.org/

“As California continues to lead our nation in green technology and sustainability, it is essential that our cities and local governments step up and take the lead as well…”. Governor Schwarzenegger http://www.greencitiescalifornia.org/transportation

The California Department of Conservation (DOC) has also implemented the Emerald Cities Program which is an innovative, public-private partnership, designed to achieve California’s aggressive resource conservation and environmental goals. Through hands-on technical and financial assistance, the program will help local and regional communities become more environmentally sustainable and become part of the effort to meet the state’s environmental, energy and economic priorities.

Emerald Cities Pilot Program expands the focus to other environmental priorities including water conservation, energy efficiency, improved air quality, and protection of agricultural and open space lands.

New Jersey Toyota Prius steals WhatGreenCar’s Car of the Year Award

It’s been a great year for the environment. Amidst a faulty economy, a quickly bankrupt American car industry, and new government incentives that promote higher fuel economy among drivers, a new calling is echoing through the global automotive industry for “green” driving. As most drivers know, the new push will help reduce the automotive industry’s footprint on the environment, cut consumer driving costs associated with gas, and begin the decline of petroleum’s grasp on the country.

New Jersey Toyota Prius dealers are one of the places locally where you can do your part for the environment. Toyota’s Prius has been making headlines since it was launched a few years ago as one of the first contenders in the title fight for fuel efficiency. To this day, the Prius still reigns supreme, with a mileage average above 40 miles per gallon. And the media buzz hasn’t quieted; in fact, the 2010 Prius was just named Car of the Year by WhatGreenCar, an authority on green driving. Piled on other green accolades, this one secures the Prius as the vehicle 2010 NJ Toyota drivers should want to drive.

NJ used cars dealers might have some spectacular older models of the Prius, but none of them compares to this year’s Prius model. The third-generation model leverages a lighter and more compact power-train to reach 51 miles per gallon in the city and 48 miles per gallon on the highway. New Jersey Toyota Prius drivers are blown away by these numbers, which are currently industry bests.

In this year’s WhatGreenCar competition, the Prius matched up against some of the toughest vehicles in the industry, but the 1.8-liter four-cylinder continuous variable transmission inside the 2010 Toyota Prius held out for the victory. The competition? Cars like the Honda Insight hybrid, Smart fortwo gasoline, Ford Fusion hybrid, Honda Civic CNG, Lexus 250h hybrid, MINI Cooper gasoline, Nissan Altima hybrid, Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute hybrid.

According to Dr Ben Lane, Managing Editor of WhatGreenCar, “While we were impressed by the latest technology on all ten models on the short-list, we were unanimous in our acclaim for the 2010 Prius. In addition to the new model’s outstanding environmental rating, we particularly like the way the car seamlessly integrates green features as part of its design. This encourages a smooth stress-free driving style, improves fuel economy and drives down emissions. If Apple made a car, it would probably be the 2010 Prius.”

In the end, the Prius was able to score a 30 on the WGC 100-point grading scale (the lower, the better). Outstanding fuel efficiency, great style, solid dependability and overall high performance driving are some of the key benefits associated with the Prius. Among 2010 NJ Toyota models, the Prius is surely king. Stop by your new and used cars NJ dealership today to give this car a test-spin. And remember: when you do your part for the environment, you do your part for your pocketbook. So make sure your ride is a fuel efficient one.

Deep Cycle Batteries – Going Green To Save Green

Deep cycle batteries are a great way to add to your green agenda. While probably best known for their use in storing energy generated by solar panels, these power sources require less maintenance, last longer and are cleaner than regular batteries. Highly versatile, they are being utilized in more and more applications, allowing people to reduce their carbon footprint and their dependence on fossil fuels. A look at how batteries work will help you understand how these durable, cost effective power sources are playing an important role in alternative energy and green technology.

Batteries do not create energy; they store it. The real difference between a deep cycle and a starter battery is its purpose. A starter battery provides a huge surge of energy to start a car engine. These batteries are then recharged using the automobile’s alternator. They work well for cars, but not for equipment that requires a constant power supply for longer periods of time. A deep cycle battery is designed to give a long-term charge. It also releases power consistently to prevent it from being drained too quickly. It is designed to use up to 80% of its stored energy, providing a longer period of usage. This gives the deep cycle battery much greater versatility for environmentally safe applications.

One great environmentally friendly application of deep cycle batteries is their use with solar panels. During a sunny day, solar panels power electrical equipment while diverting some energy to batteries. After the sun goes down, the batteries pick up the slack and keep the power source consistent. This eliminates the limitations of solar power and offers a great complement to alternative energy sources!

Another advantage of using deep cycle batteries is their durability. The fact that they distribute power slowly over time makes them efficient and versatile. They can be used to power small residences or recreational vehicles the same way traditional power methods work. They last for years, making them a good investment over other types of power. Also, thanks to dropping battery technology prices, high efficiency models that require almost no maintenance are becoming more and more affordable.

Thanks to all these factors, this type of power source is replacing gasoline-powered generators at ever increasing rates. And since they work so well with solar panels, they afford two bonuses – they make using a renewable resource more convenient by storing power while making many forms of fossil fuel power less desirable.

Going green and saving green go hand-in-hand. Reducing consumption of fossil fuels that power everything from the lights in your home to the lights in your car what the green movement is all about. The entire world is focused on ways to reduce the use of carbon based fuels. Deep cycle batteries are being used in more common applications. They are popping up in planes, cars, and trains. Given the versatility, economy and environmental friendliness of deep-cycle batteries, they are sure to be a big part of future green power solutions.

Searching for green, socially aware solutions to power your world? If so, it’s worth your time to check out Impact Battery. They offer an excellent selection of deep cycle batteries as well as many other battery types, and a portion of the proceeds from your purchase is set aside for charity. Saving, investing, and donating wisely ? The Green way

Saving, investing, and donating wisely – The Green way

When it comes to saving or investing your money, you can make it work for

both you and the environment by choosing where you bank. An increasing

number of financial institutions offer savings accounts or entire suites of

investment services that support green, sustainable, and socially responsible

programs, often in your own community. Even better, some financial institutions offer these accounts but also conduct their day-to-day operations in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

The kinds of financial programs that these institutions offer may include

using the money in savings and investment accounts to leverage low-interest

loans to help local businesses improve their energy efficiency or to build

alternative energy infrastructure such as solar or wind power. Programs also

may help nonprofit organizations set up work or self-employment training

programs or affordable housing initiatives.

When it comes to long-term investments such as mutual funds or the stock

market, you can go green there too by opting for an ethical or green fund that invests in companies that meet various environmental or social criteria or by investing directly in the companies themselves. Some green-minded investment accounts ask you to accept a lower interest rate on your savings in exchange for these positive effects, but for others, you have the opportunity for just as much of a return as you would get if your money were in conventional accounts or investments.

Of course, you also can put your money where it provides an investment for

charitable organizations instead of yourself. There’s a vast array of causes

out there that you can support, so it pays to do your research before you

part with your money in order to make sure that it will be used wisely.

Venturing Out into the World

The greenest thing you can possibly do when it comes to traveling and transportation is simply not to go — vacation locally instead of halfway around the world, for example, or work from home instead of commuting. That’s not always possible, practical, or even desirable, however, so this section looks at ways to get on the road while minimizing your impact on the environment, particularly your greenhouse gas emissions. From using public transportation for your commute to opting for greener vehicles and ecologically friendly holidays, it’s all here.

Getting around

Transportation, particularly passenger vehicles and planes, emit a tremendous

amount of carbon and other pollutants into the atmosphere, where they

contribute to climate change and a range of health problems (see Chapter 2).

Although researchers have found ways to improve fuel efficiency, power vehicles with organically based fuels instead of petroleum-based fuels, and use different technology to power the vehicle, much of this work is still at an

early stage of adoption.

As a consumer, you can make a difference by reducing the amount that you

fly or drive. Vacation locally, for example, or work from home one day a week

if possible. When you have to travel, choose more-sustainable methods of

transportation, including local bus, rapid transit, and train services. These

methods of transportation still emit pollutants, but because they carry more

people at one time, their emissions per person are much lower than if the

passengers were all in their own cars.

Traveling mindfully

Before you book your next vacation, consider where you want to go in the

world and why, and think about whether you can achieve the same effect

closer to home (to cut down on your greenhouse gas emissions) or in a more

ecologically friendly way (like by taking the train instead of flying).

There are still good, valid reasons to travel widely, though — including that it

can broaden your horizons and facilitate better understanding between cultures.

So consider taking fewer long-distance vacations and making them last

longer in order to get the best possible investment from the greenhouse gas

emissions that your travel is responsible for. Consider the location to which

you’re traveling, too; keep in mind that you’ll be a guest in that country, and try to follow the people’s standards for dress and behavior to avoid giving offense.

To take your vacation deeper into environmental or social responsibility, consider an ecotourism trip that provides insight into the local ecosystem

(including fauna and flora) or a volunteer vacation in which you spend part

or much of your time on a project that helps either the local people or the

environment.

You can help to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions that your

travel produces by considering ways to become carbon neutral — this means

that you reduce your carbon emissions as much as possible and balance the

remaining carbon emissions by offsetting them with processes that consume

carbon. Carbon offsetting refers to paying for or participating in programs that reduce the carbon in the atmosphere. Many of those programs involve planting trees; others, however, fund research into alternative or cleaner conventional technologies.

Planting trees or other vegetation is the most common carbon offsetting measure; when plants grow, they take in carbon dioxide, removing it from the atmosphere.

It’s essential to reduce the amount of carbon emissions that you produce, but

it’s not always easy. You may not be able to control whether your local power

plant runs on coal or solar energy, for example (although you can certainly

advocate for solar energy and make your home as energy efficient as possible).

That’s why carbon offsetting has become so popular recently.

Carbon offsetting isn’t the silver bullet answer to the problem of carbon emissions because it often doesn’t address the underlying problem. Tree planting, for example, only deals with the existing carbon; it doesn’t reduce the production of it, which is where the real emphasis needs to be. However, purchasing offsets helps if you’re careful about the programs you support.

Building a Green Society

You can have a powerful effect on the people and systems around you by

encouraging a greener society. Some of this influence simply comes from leading by example (perhaps by taking your lunch to work in reusable instead of disposable containers), but you also can go further by advocating for positive, constructive changes at work, in your local community, and even around the world.

Being environmentally sound at work

All the measures you put in place at home — energy-efficient appliances and

equipment, water-saving and energy conservation devices and strategies,

recycling and reusing programs — can translate very effectively to the workplace.

Many employers already take action to improve their environmental

and social responsibilities. You can encourage this wherever it’s happening

and ask for change where it’s not. Chapter 16 offers strategies to help you.

Many businesses that don’t embrace green practices simply for their environmental benefits will go green if it saves them money. If you explain how the company can reduce energy, paper, and transportation expenses by employing green tips and techniques, you may achieve the goal you’re aiming for.

Setting up community projects that work

Look around your community and you’re likely to find plenty of ways to get

involved with improving both environmental and social concerns. From

cleaning up riverbanks to redesigning neighborhoods, the list of projects is

virtually endless. If there’s something missing, though, seize the opportunity

to gather support in the community and set up a project to fill the gap. Find

Video Green Screen

What is a video green screen and how it can add more value to your video or image?

Green screen is a technique used in photography and film making to merge two entirely different images or frames. Green screen technology is also popular as chroma key, blue screen, color keying and color separation overlay. This technology has got huge popularity and usage after the evaluation of digital compositions.

Implementation of Green Screen technique involves in shot making and editing parts of film making. The basic process involves making a shot or image with our subject in the foreground and a huge green or blue screen in the background. Then taking another shot with the background we want and this time without our subject.

For example, if you want to make a film having a scene where a person (our subject) will be hit by a car. As it is practically difficult to make such a shot in reality, we will shoot the person “enacting like he was hit” with green screen or blue screen on background. Then we will shoot a car going on the road. So, basic principle is to merging two videos by replacing the green screen in the back ground of first video with the second video ( car on the road ). This process is called color keying.

So after making two different videos we can merge both of them with any popular editing software. It can be done in almost all editing or post-production software like Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Adobe’s After Effects.

The advantage of this technique is the you can choose what kind of back ground image or frame you want. Some times you can shoot both the shots individually and merge together (as I explained in the above example). And in some other cases you can merge a physically shot image or frame with a computer graphics generated image or frame. I will give you an example for the later case. If you want make a video involving a person in a bomb blast then, we can shoot the person with green screen on background and generate bomb blast with CGI and merge both of them.

Why Green or Blue? It is not a thumb rule that we cannot use any other color. But green or blue are preferred as these colors are in opposite hue to the human skin tone. Out of green and blue these days most of the film makers are going with green as the new generation digital cameras can capture green better than any other color.

The Wireless Home Of The Future ? The Third Home Wireless Network ? Smart And Green

The Wireless Home of the Future – The Third Home Wireless Network – Smart and Green

by Cees Links, CEO and Founder of GreenPeak –

“Delivering the Smart Green home of the Future.”

http://www.greenpeak.com

For many years – decades even, we have been waiting for the automated “smart” house – a house that is as technically advanced as our automobiles. For decades, we have been able to remotely lock and unlock our car doors, raise and lower our car windows, adjust temperatures for different parts of the car seating areas, and even clean the back and front windows.

Why can’t we do that with our houses? Why are our homes dumb?

Why are most homes still living in the tech dark ages? Gurus and tech-evangelists have long been promising the smart home – the automated home with devices that talk to each other, with appliances and central home systems that can be controlled from a home dashboard or over the internet. Except for a few hobbyists and early innovators, most homes today are still stupid.

However, with the arrival of the new third home wireless network, this is beginning to change. Most homes already have two wireless networks – the cordless phone network for communication and the data network – usually WiFi. Both are very effective for high bandwidth, power gulping applications like watching internet videos and talking on the phone.

However, for many less data intensive communications, the new ultra low power networks – based on the 802.15.4 standard and new ZigBee standards (including ZigBee RF4CE and ZigBee Green Power) promise to not only make our homes smart, but to do it in a way that is both green and maintenance free.

This year, large consumer electronic manufacturers, cable set top box makers and service providers will start rolling out systems for our homes that will finally make our homes as smart as our cars. This revolution is going to start small, starting with the remote control we use to control our TV and set top box. However, in the coming years we will see new capabilities added to that remote.

Based on using a RF powered remote control, it will become possible to monitor and control all the home’s systems from a single central dashboard – your remote control. By using RF (radio frequency) instead of the old fashioned IR (infrared), this central mobile dashboard can be used in any room to control systems based in other parts of the home. RF transits through walls, through doors, and through furniture. Because RF supports interactivity, not only can the home owner control other systems, but s/he can monitor the systems as well by using the display on the remote.

While sitting in the home office, s/he can monitor and control the temperature in different rooms, set up recording on the VCR in the living room, turn off the lights in the kids’ rooms after they go out and play. She can even capture a digital image from the front door camera to see who is ringing the doorbell.

And if the kids do grab the remote and somehow lose it, she can go to one of the controlled appliances – like the flat screen TV, and press the “Find Me” button. The remote control will start beeping, playing a song, whatever it takes to make it easy to find again.

Yes, these technologies can be cobbled together now but they are expensive and need technical expertise to make them all play well together. Because of the new ZigBee/RF4CE standard, vendors are creating systems and devices that will be less expensive and will be able to interact with each other. In addition, the new ultra low power capabilities make these devices maintenance free and GREEN by greatly reducing the amount of batteries needed to operate the various sensors around the home, as well as in the remote itself.

Batteries are one of the more hidden polluters of the planet. Even though they are small, each contains heavy metals and toxic chemicals. In addition, there is a heavy carbon footprint involved in the mining and refining of the raw materials, as well as in the actual manufacture and distribution of batteries, as well as in the final re-cycling and disposal of batteries.

GreenPeak Technologies is one of the leading developers of these new standards for the Third Wireless Home Network. By using GreenPeak’s new ultra low power wireless technology, consumer electronics manufacturers are now starting to rolling out remote controls that use a lot less power and never need to have the batteries changed or charged.

For example: with a typical remote control, one has to change the batteries at least once a year. Open it up, pull out the old ones and put in new AA batteries. If it is an old remote, you probably need to replace the duct tape or rubber bands holding it together.

If you have battery powered sensors in your home for security and temperature control, you already know the repeated irritation for tracking down the beeping and having to change batteries (and why do these battery powered sensors always run out of power in the middle of the night?).

By reducing the power draw and enabling the battery to last for the product’s lifetime (ten years or more), it is possible to reduce the overall number of batteries needed by 90%. This means billions fewer batteries need to be made – billions fewer batteries tossed into landfills.

By not requiring the user to open up devices to replace and/or recharge batteries, these devices also become essentially maintenance free which enables the makers to design remote controls and sensors that do not require battery compartments and lids. No more duct tape and rubber bands.

By using these new ZigBee RF4CE networks, we are improving our overall ecology as well as making our lives a lot more convenient. No more having to point and shoot with remote controls to change the channel, to set up recording on our DVRs. No need to hike downstairs to adjust the thermostat or to turn off lights after everyone has left the room. Because this new technology is based on a standard – ZigBee RF4CE – companies and manufacturers worldwide can build cost effectively design and solutions that will interact and talk to each other.

The new Third Wireless Network is coming this year – bringing with it the long awaited promise of the smart home – a home that is as automated and easy to use as the car that is parked in the home’s garage. Parents often say that that watching TV makes you stupid. That may be. However, because of ZigBee/RF4CE and the third Home Wireless Network, your TV set’s remote control will at least make your house a lot smarter.

Cees Links is CEO and founder of GreenPeak Technologies, based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Cees ["case"] Links is a pioneer of the wireless data industry, a visionary leader bringing the world of mobile computing and continuous networking together. Under his guidance, the first wireless LANs were developed which ultimately became house-hold technology integrated into the PCs and notebooks we are all familiar with. He also pioneered the development of access points, home networking routers and hotspot base stations, all widely used today.

He  was involved in establishing the IEEE 802.11 standard, the Wi-Fi Alliance, and IEEE 802.15 standardization committee.
