IRVINE, Calif. (CBS) ?A waterless car wash… It may sound impossible, but one orange county man says it’s true and he wants you to try it.
You won’t find any hoses or buckets of water here. Instead, this is all you’ll see. It’s called the Ecolo Green Car Wash.
The president of the company says this small-water based, non-toxic product only uses eight ounces of water and will do the same trick as a regular car wash.
“Washing your car at home would use between 50 to 80 gallons of water. In a professional car wash, between 20-40 gallons and we use a cup,” Pierrick Bouquet said.
The Newport Beach based company travels to various businesses in Orange County. Skeptics argue the quality isn’t as good. But Pierrick Bouquet says otherwise.
“The product we use on the car is made with organic ingredients. People also say, ‘you’re going to scratch my car.’ But no, we don’t. This product really works great,” Bouquet said.
With the state in a water crisis, Bouquet says he is helping to revolutionize the car washing industry.
“I’m passionate about being in a place where there is a drought and starting something where people don’t know about it yet,” Bouquet said.
Bouquet, originally from France, says this eco-friendly car wash is a growing concept in Europe. Whether it will sink or swim here in Orange County remains to be seen.
The car wash will make its rounds this week visiting Irvine-area businesses. A wash costs between to .

Is the US auto industry digging their own grave?
Question by niceguy: Is the US auto industry digging their own grave?
I checked the cars offered by Chrysler and the best model offer about 30mpg and some as low as about 22mpg, they do not have any high mpg or green cars yet fuel prices has been going up since 2001-2002, during this period they never make any green models but Suvs, true fuel prices came down recently but fuel is a limited resources and before you know it, fuel price will go up again. I think they are not doing well is their own doing, had they make greener cars, your fuel bill will be lower and they have better sales and this would boost the USA economy from fuel savings and more jobs at the auto industry and probably help the rest of the world too, but it must start at home. What do you think?
Best answer:
Answer by Nicholas S
I agree with you on this one and will say that they are pretty much not even making greener cars and the suv approach is not the best way to go. One thing they need to do is to ask ordinary people to help them in their search in order to figure out the problem and also a ltot of places that use diesel engines will soon start to feel the pressure that is going on and if we are to survive we may have to accept that direction or face a complete meltdown and suddnen change over into these new cars and that would not even go over well and we would be plauged by problems that if not worked out could lead to our ultimate down fall.

Question by : Advice wanted: Please answer?
The other day I was in a shop, while in the queue a man came in the shop and stood behind me. He had a beard. I had to wait quite awhile to get served as a hobbo was arguing with the clerk about the Nazi occupation of poland. The man with the beard started to mumble, I am unsure what he said but i think it was something about the economic restructuring of post communist russia. When I left the shop there was a tog tied up outside next to the side walk. it looked at me. When the beared mn came out he said something to it, again I am not sure what it was. I was waliking on down the raod when I remembered taht i was supposed to buy a box or oreos as well as a quart of milk, but I had forgotten them, I didn’t want to go back beacuse I dislkiked the shapes the clouds were foring in the sky and they were adding to my hightened sense of gernarlised anxiety. I kept walking home and on the way i saw three green cars. could I be pregnant?

Entry from: Caye Caulker, Belize Entry Title: “No roads, no cars and lobster for every meal” Entry: “We arrived to Belize from Panama City by plane and once in the airport, quickly made the decision to catch the 1030am puddle jumper to Caye Caulker. It turned out to be worth every penny as we had the most incredible view of the emerald green and turquiose sea and the little Cayes that are speckled throughout. When we touched down on the tiniest little airstrip, we discovered that the island was only as wide as the airstrip was long, and the “airport” was one little building. When our cab arrived in the form of a golf cart I was reminded that we were totally away, and this aquamarine water and white sand paradise was exactly what we needed after 4 nights in the concrete jungle. We arrived to our little cabanas hotel right on the beach, hence the name, Seaside Cabanas, and instantly knew we had made the right choice. As we walked around the white sandy streets we couldn’t belive how incredible this place was. All of the little buildings were painted in bright colors and the main street was right at the waters edge. We made our way down to the split where there is a funky little bar called the Lazy Lizard, “A Sunny Place for Shady People”. We couldn’t get over how beautiful the water was against the sugar …

Exploring Green Vehicles
By: Levi Quinn
Posted: Dec 12, 2009
Green vehicles are the vehicles that take advantage of alternative sources of energy, partially or completely, to power them. The use of alternative propulsion other than fossil fuels can ensure zero to a less level of carbon emissions — bringing significant contribution to the environment. Some of the various alternative vehicles make use of ethanol, electricity, water, or can be hybrids that are partly fossil-fueled and partly alternative energy powered.
Let us explore the basic of these green vehicles and make a comparative study on them.
1 Electric
For people who are on the look out for clean, sustainable mobility, then EV propelled by electric motors is the perfect solution for them. The enhanced energy-to-weight ratio presented by Lithium-ion batteries has seen their extended use in the EV. But with these batteries priced at a premium, bringing the cost higher, there is still a long way to go for these vehicles to make them a viable solution for the average consumer. Moreover, the pure electric vehicle is known as the Neighborhood Electric Vehicle on account of its capacity to only be able to withstand shorter journeys, where the normal internal combustion-powered cars are lesser effective. This is truer in cities which are known to wolf down huge amounts of gasoline to drive the engine.

But the fuel cell-powered EVs are gaining popularity for their fuel efficiency rather than conventional cars. The carbon emissions are pulled down by a 55 percent to 99.9 percent as compared to diesel engines depending on the source of electricity.
2 Ethanol-fuelled vehicles
Ethanol or ethyl alcohol-fuelled cars can be made to run on 100 percent alcohol, or gasoline blended alcohol fuel. The ethanol for powering vehicles is generated from corn, sugar cane, cheese whey, brewery waste, and potato wastes or the cellulosic ethanol made from woody grass and other biomasses. Vehicles, like the flexible-fuel vehicles, generally adopt an 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline to power the vehicle. States like California follow a system wherein the gasoline offered contains a small portion of ethanol to improve the oxygen content of gasoline, for lowering pollution. The E85 with 85 percent ethanol is known to produce 85 percent less toxins, sulfur, and carcinogens — resulting in lowering carbon emissions by 25 percent and greenhouse emissions by 35 percent. A switch to E85 can bring in a five to seven percent rise in horsepower, but a 10 to 20 percent fall in fuel efficiency depending on the model of the car.
3 Water-fueled cars
Water-fueled cars use the water injection technique, otherwise known as the anti-detonant injection, wherein water gets injected into the cylinder or the fuel-air mixture to enhance the compression and cooling in the combustion chambers. As the adoption of water injection increases octane rating, greater performance can be ensured by combining the right technique. Water is also introduced in hydrogen cars which require it to power them.
While these non-polluting sources make a significant contribution to the world today, it is the price and the lower number of refueling stations that pull many back from this capital investment. With the Government coming up with innovative ways to fight back this drawback, one can say that greener cars will slowly replace fully gasoline cars in the future.

Question by zeaps: Do you think hybrids are a viable alternative? Best answer: Answer by pinball_fan Hybrids don’t use Nickel-Cadmium batteries, and only experimental hybrids use Lithium-Ion batteries. They DO use Nickel Metal Hydride, which isn’t very toxic (and they are recyclable). The acid rain, extreme environmental damage around nickel mines, etc., was true in the 1960s (long before hybrid cars). Nickel mining has since been cleaned-up and the big nickel mine in Sudbury Ontario (Canada) that you cited now wins environmental awards! And not much of the nickel is used in hybrid batteries anyway, most nickel goes to the manufacture of stainless steel and chrome. Toyota warrants their battery for 150,000 miles or 10 years, whichever comes first, in states that follow California emissions regulations — and that’s a full, not pro-rated, warranty. Their accountants would not allow expensive batteries to be given away for free if they were wearing out at 100,000 miles, as you cited. They are fully recyclable, and they don’t go to landfills; Toyota pays $ 200 to get batteries back to ensure they are recycled. (And with today’s nickel prices, the battery is worth more than that anyway. Would you throw $ 200+ into a landfill?) That’s enough rebuttal for starters, perhaps other answers you receive will offer more. Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments! Do you think hybrids are a viable alternative?
I wrote a persuasive essay for English a while back and I thought it’d be appropriate to post it somewhere on the Internet, so why not Y!A? :D Anyways, I can’t find my 4 or 5 sources anywhere but will edit them in if I find them. Tell me what you guys think…once I get the sources up you can check my internal citations :P
Hybrids Are Bad for the Environment
Hybrids are all the craze nowadays and the car companies are selling them under the impression that they are the ultimate in green car technology. They have an advertised MPG, or miles per gallon, that is much, much higher than gasoline and diesel fueled cars. They emit fewer greenhouse gases while running which contributes to the slowing of global warming, the natural heating of the Earth which can be intensified due to higher than normal amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Finally, they use less gasoline because of the MPG which will save the precious gasoline supplies in the world. But are they really that eco-friendly? Hybrids use Nickel-Cadmium or Lithium-ion batteries, Cadmium and Lithium being extremely rare in large quantities. The processing of the nickel in preparation for battery making releases copious amounts of sulfur dioxide into the air, which causes acid rain, which will destroy the ecosystem for miles around the nickel plants. Hybrids also advertise 19 MPG higher than what the realistic MPGs of hybrids are, and the precious gasoline that hybrids are using less of, will run out about the same time the precious minerals used in the hybrid batteries run out at current rates. There are also hybrids that plug into the wall, and of course that makes the emissions out of the car less, but the emissions from the coal being burned in 70% of the United States is much less clean than the gasoline and diesel fuels. Hybrids should not be developed further, as they are as destructive to the environment as gasoline cars are, as they use precious minerals in their batteries, cause acid rain around the nickel plants, destroying ecosystems, not saving them, and burn coal instead of gasoline for power. The best alternative for the most eco-friendly car is a clean diesel car with the PZEV, or Partial Zero Emission Vehicle, option available at many dealerships.
The batteries used in hybrids destroy ecosystems around the mining and processing plants and the precious minerals used in hybrids will run out at about the same time as gasoline. Will this really solve the problem? The batteries in hybrids, in an example of the Prius batteries, made in Sudbury, Ontario, cause acid rain. According to Impact Lab, “[t]he acid rain around Sudbury was so bad it destroyed all the plants and the soil slid down off the hillside” (Prius), and with more and more companies creating hybrids, more and more battery processing plants will be made, causing more and more acid rain due to the copious amounts of sulfur dioxide emitted during battery processing. Not only do the batteries destroy the ecosystems around the plants, “after maybe 100,000 miles, the battery starts to lose its ability to charge. Tesla Motors performance figures even state that after 50,000 miles, the batteries will only perform at about 70% their optimal, factory level” (Why). What does that mean? That means that after 100,000 miles the battery will have to be replaced, and the used batteries cannot be recycled, and thus just go into landfills. And if you want optimal performance, you’d have to change the battery every 50,000 miles. The average gasoline car can be used until nearly 300,000 miles before ultimate failure with minor repairs, which is 4-7 batteries in a hybrid. And you have to remember that, according to Four-bits.com, “lithium… is pretty rare in large quantities. With projected increases in the use of lithium, the known mines would run out about the same time as oil” (Why). This makes hybrids just another quick fix that won’t fix the problem with the environment long term.
Many hybrids are being converted into plug-in hybrids which plug directly into a household wall socket and charge via the coal-burning power plants that provide electricity to 70% of the United States, and coal emits many more greenhouse gases than gasoline does. This means that “coal-burning plants could be even worse for the environment than gasoline-burning engines…” (Hybrid). And even in the green-powered electricity states, such as California, Jim Motavalli of The Environmental Magazine quoted that the
“ACEEE concluded that a plug-in version of the Toyota Prius could reduce CO2 emissions by a third over a conventional Prius hybrid, but only if its batteries were charged with California electricity — generated mainly from relatively clean sources. In the Midwest, dominated by coal-burning power plants, the report says the plug-in Prius would actually generate one percent more carbon dioxide” (Motavalli).
California being the strictest state in emissions standard, this is a rare case of hybri
Thanks for your rebuttal :D I spent about 5 hours digging through all the pro hybrid stuff to get to this con hybrid stuff… I still dislike hybrids (I’m a fast car guy, not a fuel efficient one) but I was not aware that the sudbury (spelling?) was cleaned up… anyways, thanks for your rebuttal, I convinced my whole english class that hybrids were bad (including my hybrid-driving teacher) so now I have the actual facts. I’d still rather ride a bike to be fuel efficient. :P
Your essay is fine if your goal is to get a good grade in your English class as a persuasive paper. However, your sources have been thoroughly discredited by many reliable authorities, so your paper won’t survive a “factual” test. For example…![]()

The console has a comfortable, curved shape, although it may be a tad large and heavy for smaller hands. It features a full-color touch screen and sound that’s a far cry better than the beeps of old-school handheld consoles. (Parents will appreciate the volume control and a jack for headphones!) Control and manipulate the console with the included stylus and with the videogame-style D pad and other buttons.
We found the initial set-up to be relatively easy: install the four required AA batteries, and navigate through the self-explanatory screens to create user profiles for up to 3 children (which come in handy for accessing online features). After this quick set-up, a menu screen will appear, where you can choose to play the pre-loaded games, go online, or insert a game cartridge.
Fun and Learning
Leapster 2 games are designed to grow with your child ages 4 through 8. The console is pre-loaded with two games: The “Dragons to the Rescue! Learning Game,” is a “video game” type activity with four different levels, the first helping kids identify letters and numbers, the most advanced giving them spelling and multiplication practice, all while navigating a dragon past monstrous storm clouds and scrambling to collect magic crystals. The “Creativity Castle Art Studio” is a rather low-tech art program. Players can select a background scene to “color” using the stylus and “decorate” with fun animated stamps. While it does foster creativity, this program is somewhat clumsy — your Paint program on your PC does a much better job. But “Dragons” was fun enough to keep even an adult tester enjoyably diverted.
Unfortunately, an SD card is required for taking advantage of some of what the Leapster 2 has to offer — which is a drawback, because it must be purchased separately. For example, without the SD card (which offers more memory) you cannot save artwork.
In the meantime, without the SD card, you can still purchase game cartridges, as well as download new games, or take advantage of the online “Learning Path”. (This online program allows you to register and upload your children’s Leapster 2 profiles to show you their learning activities and their progress.) And you still can plug your console — with the included USB cable — into your PC for your children to view and print “rewards” for completing different game levels (for Dragons to the Rescue, they’re certificates of achievement) or to print pictures to color with actual crayons (to encourage some “old-fashioned” creativity!) You must first install the Leapster 2 software on your computer, which comes on the included CD-ROM.
